Everyone is writing obituaries for companies like Infosys. If anything, I think these companies are going to rapidly grow. Or, we are gonna have more companies like these pop up.
Think about why Infosys (or HCL, or Wipro) exists in the first place. Bank of America, or General Electric, or Shell want some software solutions. These companies don't want to build the software themselves, it's not their core business, they've got bigger problems to solve. Enter: Infosys. Builds the solution for them, add the cost arbitrage on top, and suddenly everyone's happy. Infosys gets business and Bank of America gets their problem solved.
You might ask: why does Bank of America need custom software? Isn't banking productized? Sure. But when you have enough money and building is cheap, you build around YOUR workflow instead of fitting into someone else's. You know that one feature you wish existed in Linear? Imagine just... building it.
Here's where AI flips the script. Building software has gotten probably 10x cheaper. WHICH MEANS A LOT MORE COMPANIES ARE GOING TO WANT CUSTOM SOLUTIONS THAN TAKE SOMETHING OFF THE SHELF.
And this is not way in the future, it's happening now. @leerob built a custom CMS for Cursor (in 3 days for $260). So, people are doing it already. The only thing to remember here is that Cursor is a software company at the frontier of AI. They know how (and why) to do this. 99% of the businesses don't.
And that's the whole point. Anthropic is embedding engineers in Goldman Sachs to co-develop AI agents. Cognition has partnered with Infosys to deploy Devin across industries. These AI companies are doing consulting work, that's what it is.
More companies are going to want agentic enabled operations. The cost of building is collapsing. But most of these companies have zero interest in building or maintaining code. This is Infosys' core value proposition, and it just got way bigger.
I'm more bullish on Indian IT services than I ever have been. If anything, we're going to see 10-100 people Infosys Studios pop up everywhere.
If you're an engineer, no better time to pop up that studio than now. If you're a business that does not want to build and maintain but needs AI agents, hit me up.
